Quiet Comes

As my wife and I were eating supper and discussing our days, I explained to her how I was ready to load my backpack in my truck or Jeep to run away for a short time. I have done that before and am ready to go again - not because I am lazy or trying to escape from anything, but to find calm again. Wilderness is soothing.

Where I want to go will not have rides, or gimmicks, many people, or souvenirs. Instead, I will go where there are trees and dirt, rocks and water. Maybe I will see other people, maybe I won’t; I am fine with solitude if being alone is possible.

Until I can head for wilderness I will find quiet in quiet places close to home. After a long day filled with challenges and opportunities, I spent a few minutes at the end of this day along the edge of a prairie near a lake watching the sun settle over the horizon. My camera sort of captured the moments, but not really. The picture, when looked at individually plant by plant is busy and chaotic. When viewed as a whole - random wildflowers and a sunset - you see the quiet I enjoyed.

The day has ended, its time for rest, a new day will come.
