Dominoes

Late this evening I was invited to attend a meeting where a suggested change will be discussed. Without going into too many details, the change would create a habitat change that, like dominoes, would have a series of cascading effects on a number of smaller, hardly of concern to most, wildlife species. I don’t know if I will be there to listen or to provide input.

Today’s photo features one of what I call a lesser species - something we take for granted since we don’t hunt or fish them or really pay any attention other than when we hear them. Cicadas are a species that we might impact without realizing it - good or bad.

Today’s picture features a cicada exoskeleton attached to tree bark. I will be honest - I don’t know of any good or bad impacts cicadas have on our ecosystem. But, that doesn’t mean they or their habitat should be ignored. Each species serves a purpose whether we are aware of it or even if we appreciate it.

I will attend the meeting and begin by listening and thinking about dominoes and cascading effects. Hopefully all turns out well. Oh, and I will be listening for this cicada too!
