More FOY Birds (for me)

For thirty-minutes or so this morning there was one of the most impressive displays of migratory waterfowl movements at the local level that I can remember. Whether the birds were moving from one local pool to another, or were incoming from distances further out, there were birds… and so many of them.

Highest in numbers were the greater white-fronted and snow geese. In second place may have been the trumpeter swans that decorated the sky with their graceful beauty. Ducks were moving too, but not in the same number as the larger birds.

For today’s accounting, these were the “First of the Year” birds I was able to document.

  • American Wigeon

  • Wood Duck

  • American Coot

  • Snow Geese (others saw them yesterday)

As I watched the coot moving around I noticed a mink eyeballing the bird. When the mink saw me it changed its direction rather quickly.

By the way… the swans were flying all over, including almost directly overhead. What a treat!
