Ice Sounds, Water Sounds

With spring weather conditions blessing us this afternoon, I had to get out on the water. I could not resist the temptation to paddle on the Wapsipinicon River.

My icy voyage began at our cabin where I erroneously thought I could paddle along the river’s edge to a point where I could then force my way through the slush on the water. Such an adventure was not to happen - the ice was still a bit too thick to break through.

After accepting I was going next to nowhere in front of the cabin, I then loaded my canoe and other gear into the truck and moved to Alcock Park (east) in Frederika. After portaging my canoe to the open water near the dam I was then almost ready to paddle up the river. Then after carrying my canoe to the river I then had to make a second trip from the truck to the river with camera equipment. Seeing my canoe poised to paddled looked so inviting I took this picture.

Once on the river at the park I made my way up to the bend to the north and then returned. The outing was great, even though I saw no wildlife up close and worthy of a photo. I did shoot this selfie - something I do not often do.
