Join Me If You Wish

Join me if you wish for a visual recap of my wildflower and wildlife observations for the day. Included photos feature the uncommon miterwort plant.

Miterworts are unassuming, uncommon wildflowers that do not grow just anywhere. In Bremer County I have found them in one location. The same applies to my miterwort searches in Fayette County - found in just one location, so far. Miterwort blossoms are very intricate, but so tiny - measuring just 1/8 inch across. To photograph them requires macro equipment. In my case today, to find not only miterwort plants in bloom, but then to find one hosting a threatening appearing spider, was extra exciting.

During my hike I found plenty of other wild plants to enjoy. When possible, I attempted to photograph each in non-traditional compositions. To me wildflowers are nature’s works of art. To capture the essence of the wildflowers suggests I feature them in more of an “art-like” fashion, rather than typical textbook-style images. As I review my images, I ask “Would these look good as canvas prints hanging on a wall?” When I could answer yes, then I featured them here.

Species identifications are in the captions.

I did find some well-established small puffball fungi too.

Finally, I was very surprised when these three geese (domestic graylags?) caught my attention as I drove over a creek.
