Multiple Views of a Common Theme

Once again my photographic efforts today were impacted by a strong desire to create images with an artistic style. To follow through on my idea required that I record suitable base images and then edit the files to alter reality. Or, I could manipulate what my sensor was seeing as the shutter was open - as was done in this first file. This process is called “Intentional Camera Movement” or “ICM.” When normally I strive for sharpness, ICM is an opposite concept but quite fun to do.

To carry the ICM theme a step further, I then removed the color elements from the final image as seen here.

My next image triggered emotional thoughts based on fallen trees. If you are like me, you watched a fair number of nature programs over the years - especially when growing up. Several episodes of the animal life programs included the drama of old, legacy animals finally succumbing to age. I clearly remember seeing this with the featured species being elephants. As I flew my drone over this stand of quaking aspens, seeing the two downed trees triggered thoughts of the aged elephants and the succession of the herd (or the forest). As these two mature trees return to the soil, many more aspens are growing up to fill their void. (I know, this is unusual imagination, but these were the thoughts I had when I noticed the two trees on the ground.)

Since I was shooting pictures of trees, I recorded a couple more compositions that I liked.

For those wondering - the common theme was quaking aspens. Each image has at least one quaking aspen in it.

(By the way - Imagine any of these photos printed large scale and hanging on a wall. I think they would look very nice.)
