Checking on Woody

Regular readers know I enjoy time outdoors - either on a hike or paddling or photographing wildlife - as a means to clear my mind. This afternoon my quiet time involved me checking on my local Woody Woodpecker.

Our acceptance of each other is growing. Tonight Woody (assuming to be a male) actually sat and watched me from the comfort of the hole.

For those wondering… I frequently wait up to 45-minutes for the woodpecker to appear. Some days it happens, some days it doesn’t. I never know. When the bird does show, I am given maybe 5-7 seconds total of photography time.

I am so grateful for this opportunity, but I do wish the lighting was better. Due to the time of appearance, I need to shoot at a high ISO with a bright background.
