Those Who Paddle

Those who paddle with a passion, and maybe more, will understand the inner thoughts of this image. Even though much of the picture does not reveal detail due to being shot at night, there is enough visible in the composition to be thought provoking.

During my many full moon paddles I have noticed the wash of light across the river created by a rising full moon. I have often wondered about an image where the light stripe on the water was the only visible element in the image, with that interrupted by a canoe. My preference would have been smooth water, but I did not have that option tonight since we had wind.

So what did it take to make this picture? I had to wait for a near full moon, wade the river after dark multiple times to assure the canoe was in the proper position within the light shaft, and then take many pictures since the breeze was moving my canoe around and out of position.

I am not sure this was exactly what I had envisioned, but it is close. I will continue to work on this concept as conditions allow.
