Plain Gentians Found!
For some reason I almost forgot about a small population of “Plain Gentians” that blooms not too far from our home. Today I ventured out well before sunrise to see if I might be able to locate some of the plants, not knowing if all were past their peak or not. Not only did my search begin early, but it also began with the first of the year frost making for a chilly outing.
Thankfully I had GPS coordinates from my visit last year to guide my hunt. It did not take too long to find the first couple of small clumps of the uncommon wildflowers. Between the two, almost all blossoms were well on their way to withering to nothing, except for maybe a blossom or two. Still, I did shoot some photos (pictured below).
Then I found a third, much larger patch of the plain gentians. Like the other two patches, most blossoms were almost non-existent for photos. But, I did find one plant with several nice looking, prime blossoms waiting to be the subject of a few pictures.
I will be putting together a video describing how I photographed the plain gentians. For now I will share a couple of my preferred images from the outing.
