Chilly-rumped Warbler

Ready or not, it sounds like frost will be setting in during the overnight hours or early tomorrow morning. The arrival of frost seems early this year, but there is nothing we can do about it other than cover our sensitive plants.

I know there will be more warmer days in the forecast yet, but I am not ready. Apparently several dozen yellow-rumped warblers are not prepared for the cold weather yet either. Tonight they were flitting around from tree to tree along the river bank. When I paddled slowly I was able to approach them – almost as if it was time to say farewell for a half-year or so. After all, I did greet them this past spring when they returned to our area in large numbers.     

By this time tomorrow morning I suspect this yellow-rumped warbler might be a chilly-rumped warbler – at least until the sun comes out in full force.
