Emulating After the Rain

For some time I have been studying the imaging work of several photographers from around the world. A common characteristic is their ability to make artistic images out of ordinary settings. In doing so, the gentlemen turn what we might consider mundane into works worthy of wall space. I have been waiting for an opportunity to give their techniques a try and that happened this afternoon after a rain shower end.

Kristy, Layla, and I went for a walk in a wooded area at a park where we were visiting. For much of the walk we both were looking for that photo subject, but seeing nothing. Then, as we rounded a corner on the slightly muddy trail, this moss-covered tree came into view. For a precious few minutes the sun was shining with the right intensity at the correct angle to light the moss to a vivid green. My chance to turn ordinary into something better had arrived.

I had no tripod with me and the special lighting was sure to be fleeting, so I did my best with handheld imaging. This photo is my effort for the day to capture a special forest scene that most others likely did not see. If I could change anything with the composition, I would have appreciated a bit of fog in the scene.
