Autumn in Farm Country

Watching the transition from growing soybeans to maturing soybeans has been a fascinating process. Not too long ago the view out our window was an extensive sea of green blowing in the wind. Now we have some yellow leaves on the ground, a few tan seed pods, and many more green/yellow pods. Soon harvest will be underway.

Autumn in farm country is an interesting time of year. The greens of corn and soybeans fade quickly as the millions of plants dry out. Another growing season is ending as farmers are already planning for the next. Between then and now we will have that season of white. Some are fond of the cold and snow, me…not so much anymore. I used to really enjoy winter. Now it is more a long series of days I tolerate until spring comes again.

We don’t have to think too much about winter yet. There are still many weeks of autumn left to enjoy. The time will go fast, but I am sure it will be visually memorable.
