Things I Am Thankful For

In addition to being upright and healthy, there are many things I am thankful for today.

#1 - I am so very thankful to have been able to spend the day fishing with two of my grandsons. This angling outing was a long time coming, but very worth it. We fished, we caught fish, and we released the fish. Our time spent together was very worthwhile. Thanks boys!

#2 - I am so very thankful the pond we fished has a “Catch and Release” rule. Between the three of us, 61 sunfish were pulled in. At one point I was continually removing a fish and rebaiting a hook while a second rod and reel was catching the next fish. The bite was continuous and just what the boys needed. That said, I must add that most of the fish would have been too small to keep. Still, small or not, 61 fish is a lot of fish!

#3 - I am thankful that tonight, before I went in for the evening, this barred owl appeared and remained at close range, even as I moved around. That owl’s behavior allowed me to photograph it and discuss owls with folks interested in the details of owls and wildlife.

#4 - I am thankful for seeing this ‘gator while fishing. Do you think it was real?

#5 - I am thankful I found this discarded fishing line and grabbed it before wildlife - maybe geese or ducks - became caught in it. I don’t know how this much fishing line could have been accidentally left along the bank of the pond. Please anglers - be responsible!
