Since I Last Posted

Since yesterday’s post I have had multiple interactions with wildlife resulting in an assortment of images. I will share a sampling below. If you want to see many more pictures, please click on this link to watch a two and a half minute video featuring more photos set to music. I think you will enjoy it. The link is: Wapsipinicon Wild

I will begin with bird images. There were several species observed, but the highlights were prothonotary warblers and yellow-throated vireos. I watched the warbler brutally beat worms and grubs into quiet mode before they were carried off, presumably to a nest I have not found yet. I was impressed by the violence.

To not make this post too lengthy, I will share only a few photos. Again, the video has many more images.

To capture these images required that I sat in my canoe in the right spot for a long time. I remained in position long enough that this whitetail deer approached me. As the photos show, she could not quite tell what I was. Eventually she may have smelled me and ran off snorting.

For plants I photographed two species of interest.

Dodder is growing again where I found it last year. This is a parasitic plant that requires another plant (host) for survival. Depending where I look, dodder may or may not be good to have around.

The second species was the green dragon. I hiked in to them again. The bloom is nearly complete.

I will end with what I thought was an interesting view of stream bluet damselflies.
