A Meaningful Place

A location on this dirtball we call “Earth” exists that has special meaning for me. For most I would guess the “Freda Haffner Kettlehole” would not be worth a stop. I, on the other hand, look forward to my time at the kettlehole.

My visit to the kettlehole has been an annual event where only I wander the prairie and the geologic formation - a glacial depression. From the outside I find nothing but wildflowers and, if I am lucky, a bird species or two. The reality is I find something more important - I find myself. During my visit I hear nothing but the sound of the wind, birds calling, frogs singing, and silence - the busyness stops for a few minutes. There are no distractions… my pulse slows and a calm is present. Attempting to explain the attraction would likely be of little use unless we have conversed about “life/work balance.” My stops at the kettlehole help bring that balance and the quiet that comes with balance.

OK - enough of the deep thoughts… I did find some flowers and had a flyover by swans during my visits and will share some of the photos here.

And then my special time at the kettlehole ended and it was time to return to reality. (Thank you Nature Conservancy for such a special place!)
