Only Person in America

There is no doubt that I take my wildlife observation/photography passion very seriously. Each day I make time for at least a few minutes in the outdoors. Most of the time those moments are uneventful - or at least I am not seeing or photographing anything unusual.

Today though, I do believe I may have been the only person in America today who not only photographed a clay-colored sparrow, but I managed to record images of a sparrow with its nictitating membrane closing over an eye.

I have not seen a clay-colored sparrow for five years (according to my database). Now today, when I do see one, several of the images have the eye partially covered. What are the chances? At least I did record plenty of acceptable images too. I will share a couple below.

Before I found the clay-colored sparrow I was going to feature this pasqueflower that has gone to seed. Even though the blossom is well past its prime, the plant is still interesting.
