Remember Back, Looking Forward

Today was one of those days we all have from time-to-time. The cool, wet day made for a dreary attitude. My activities were mostly serious resulting a real need for Nature Rx. But, with little sunshine, even my time in the outdoors was challenging. Still, I got out and am thankful for the effort.

As I walked near the river I noticed ferns were beginning their growth for the year. Each time I watch this cycle I am amazed that what appears to be a barren zone will soon be thick with ferns and other wild plants. I think back to last year how the ferns had spread and I had to cut some back, and then this year I have delicate fern fiddleheads coming up again. The cycle will continue.

My next effort was to make sure housing was available for the soon-to-arrive house wrens. Again I thought back to their frequent continuous chattering, yet I look forward to hearing it again.

How wrens can make such a haphazard nest that successfully hatches young is a mystery. Yet, each year I look forward to the wren couple going through the effort again.

Last year is a memory. The future is a vision. Let’s get moving forward with ferns and wrens and anything else spring might bring.
