The Blessings of Full Sun, The Curse of Full Sun

Often when I am shooting outdoor photos I don’t necessarily prefer full sun for my compositions. A full sun tends to create harsh shadows and can make images less than pleasing.

Yet, for the majority of wildflowers, full sun is needed for the blossoms to open to their fullest. Without sun, the plants tend to remain closed. For wildflowers I generally need full sun while that same full sun can create complications.

Today I enjoyed a wildflower walk where I photographed eight species currently in bloom. When possible, I used the full sun and shadows to my benefit to create pleasing images - almost “Wildflowers as Art” compositions for some of them.
