“That Is Why I Have Two Feet”

While watching a tower climber work on a tower today those of us on the ground heard a “Whew…” or something like that. When the climber was back on the ground I asked if he had slipped. He explained in a casual manner yes, his foot slipped, but that is why he has two feet!

On a serious note - I was very impressed by the proactive safety measures taken by the tower climbing team. Before donning any harnesses I watched as multiple safety straps and harnesses were checked. The company employing the climbers requires them to go through a safety checklist that includes taking pictures of the site, themselves, and their safety gear - all to be approved before the climb begins. This climber went to the top of the 180’ tower, worked on multiple antennas on the climb up, and returned without incident. Meanwhile he had a climbing partner monitoring on the ground and prepared to do a rescue, if needed. That folks, was professional and safe work 180’ in the sky on this cold, windy day.
