Seeing Will Be Believing

Kristy and I have reason to believe we have been having a wild visitor or visitors during the dark of night. Clues around the ponderosa hint that whatever is passing through is large enough to carry away some weight - as in rabbits or turkey bones.

For the past few days I have had a trail cam set up in what should be a good spot to finally get a glimpse of our nighttime traveler, but so far I have missed the guest.

Today I expanded my investigative techniques to look for tracks or scat that might provide insight. No decent tracks were found, but I did find scat along the edge of the yard. Based solely on size and content, I am guessing a coyote has been frequenting our perimeter. I cannot say for sure, but that is my guess at this time. If or when I see something on the trail cam, then I will believe my guess was correct. Maybe that will be tonight.

This image is the scat I found. Are there any coyote experts that will support my identification decision or, for that matter, anyone to poke holes in my theory based on poop found?
