Nuthatch Nostril and More

Some time ago I mentioned to a friend that when I photograph birds I do my utmost to assure the eye is sharply focused. If the eye is in focus, chances are the nostril will be visible and just as clear. I suppose you could say I challenge myself to record in-focus avian nostrils.

This afternoon, as I was photographing birds at feeders, I knew I had captured good photos of a white-breasted nuthatch nostril. The eye was sharp and so was the nasal passage - just as I thought!

At the feeders I also watched as black-capped chickadee after black-capped chickadee looked for nibbles of fat on this chuck of animal. Based on their actions, I believe the nutritious parts of the offering had been consumed. None of the birds seemed to find anything to tear off from what was left hanging. I am sure the offering fed many birds over the past few days.

Finally, I dabbled a bit in still life macro imaging with a small point and shoot camera this morning. I then edited the file for this artistic view.
