Worse Than Hurricane Nicole

A little more than a month ago our family experienced Hurricane Nicole first hand while in Orlando, Florida. I suppose it could be said that by the time the storm was inland to Orlando, Hurricane Nicole had been downgraded to “tropical storm” status. Regardless, we were there for the storm.

During the passing of Hurricane Nicole across the state of Florida I woke during the night to see and listen to a hurricane. I will be honest, the storm did not impress me too much. Thankfully it was only a Category 1 storm, but still, the weather did not make me feel threatened.

Today I compared what we experienced during Nicole to what was happening in Northeast Iowa. Our door was nearly ripped from the house by the relentless winds. In fact Kristy and I tag-teamed when going in and out just to prevent any damage. Even our heavy Amish double glider was flipped over by the wind. Today’s weather impressed me, but not in a good way.

Since spending much time outside for photography during this nasty weather was not going to happen I instead practiced macro photography on a very pretty lily Kristy received.

My finished image was acceptable, but if I was doing this again I would use a tripod and would exercise more control over the lighting. That did not happen tonight since my tripod was outside and I did not want to go out to get it. The wind is still too strong.
