One More Memory

As I waited along the Wapsipinicon River for the eastern sky to brighten early this morning, my imagination kicked in as I explored the shoreline near our cabin. With our dock pulled for the winter, nearby structures caught my attention.

This dock belongs to friends who, due to “life” are no longer able to enjoy much time along the river. With the loss of their visits came the end of memories being made from this dock. No longer do I see a pontoon boat tied to the dock and ready to carry passengers up and around Indian Pond. There is no flat-bottom fishing boat lashed next to the dock. Fishing in the main channel has come to a stop. Memories are no longer made from this dock.

As I photographed the dock I could imagine just one more memory destined for this structure. A day will come when its existence ends. A final memory will be the last sight as the tired structure is pulled from the river.

I am hopeful another dock will replace this “legacy” dock that has endured so many seasons. With a new dock will begin new memories - perhaps kids and dogs, boats, laughing, and enjoying the river. And, the cycle will repeat…
