More Camera Testing

In the not too distant future our family will be traveling to a location where photos should be made, but where camera equipment choices must be seriously considered. There will be bumps and water and who knows what else to challenge the integrity of lenses and circuit boards. Knowing that, I am doing my best to figure out what camera equipment to use.

As of this morning I was planning to use a combination of my cell phone and GoPro to record the event. That changed this afternoon when I tested both on a cabin sunset, autumn leaf macro scene, and a wide shot at the dam in Frederika. The last two images - the macro and dam pictures - were not even good enough to consider sharing here.

This sunset picture clearly illustrates the weakness of the cell phone camera. Notice the multiple areas of lens flare, especially the large green column and the pronounced, sharply focused round green dot. And under close examination it is easy to see the focus is much softer than my Nikon. To be fair, I really cannot expect a cell phone to have the image quality of my Nikon. But for what I am going to be doing, I want to do the job well or not at all. That said, if I had to decide right now the Nikon would be going with me.
