The “Bigger” Picture

Oh my…what a beautiful January day in Northeast Iowa! Temps in the mid-50’s with a slight breeze and a sky full of sunshine. What more could we ask for (…well, we do need rain)!

After work I enjoyed a pleasant hike at Alcock Park. Since this park is dissected by the Wapsipinicon River, my preferred route (when the park is closed to vehicles for the season) is to hike in from the west, cross on the swinging bridge, then hike upstream to the dam. The entire distance out and back is less than two-miles, depending how much wandering I do. Today I explored below the dam, but not where I have been recently due to slightly higher water levels.

Since I was not wearing waders my composition options were limited. I was expecting the most I would be photographing was to shoot abstract images of moving water around rocks (seen here).

Then I looked up and observed the wider, bigger picture. There it was - the setting sun, moving water, rocks, and a log. Everything I needed to convey in an image the pretty day we were blessed with. For that I was thankful.
