Kip’s Comments 9-19-21

Almost Time For Another Event Based on my wildlife/outdoor observations for the day I was expecting to post a picture and share thoughts about otter scat. My thoughts had bounced around on the topic until I noticed the moon rising in the eastern sky. My attention changed as did my photo and comments for …

Kip’s Comments 9-17 and 9-18-21

Beating Skeeters Whether or not we should have known better, our group of family and friends camped this weekend. (My outing was abbreviated due to a medical emergency in the family.) What we predicted correctly was that recent high water resulted in an excess of hungry mosquitoes. The little biters attacked in droves, unless …

Bald Eagle in Conifer - Image 708579 (© Kip Ladage)

Kip’s Comments 9-16-21

Stopping to Enjoy For several weeks my sightings of bald eagles has been minimal. The low observation numbers are more my fault than the birds’ doings. I simply have not had much time to get out looking around lately. I am sure the eagles have been around to observe if I had been watching.  …

Fog on Wapsipinicon River - Image 708533 (© Kip Ladage)

Kip’s Comments 9-15-21

Whoa, Stop and Enjoy This When I woke this morning and looked out the window, my imagination immediately began imagining…”Look at that beautiful fog!” (unless you are driving in it). There were pictures to be made, I needed to get out there! Unfortunately there is a responsibility called “work” that sometimes alters your best …

Kip’s Comments 9-14-21

Simple, For a Reason Today’s post is short for a good reason. My time for photography came between a half-day of work, then during the break, before many of practiced a missing person exercise for hours this evening. So, I shot little, but what I did shoot I found pretty.    This is a …

Kip’s Comments 9-13-21

Measuring Distance, Counting Ounces As my photography interests expand, my backpack gear weight seems to be increasing too. Since I have several bags and backpacks, it would be easy to just carry all that I might ever need, but why? If I learned one thing in my younger years, it is that just because …

Great Blue Heron in Birch Trees - Image 708164 (© Kip Ladage)

Kip’s Comments 9-12-21

Hidden in the Birch Trees While paddling my canoe on the Wapsipinicon River this morning I did not see much to photograph. Try as I might, the images of fungus on a log, a feather on water, and even “action” shots of paddling at daybreak did not impress me. Some days are like that.  …

First Flag Football Game! - Image 708002 (© Kip Ladage)

Kip’s Comments 9-11-21

Future Heisman Trophy Candidate? My six-year old grandson’s flag football team played their first game this morning. Even though he is the smallest fellow on the team, he plays hard and plays to win. We watched several good carries, with this one being almost a touchdown. It was a fun game to watch!

Waxing Crescent Moon - Image 707390 (© Kip Ladage)

Kip’s Comments 9-10-21

The Experts Were Correct According to “MoonGiant.com” tonight’s waxing crescent moon is lit in such a way that surface detail is easy to see. After taking a look at the moon through a long lens, I will have to say I agree. The 15% of the moon that is lit reveals considerable detail.

Night Sky - Image 707386 (© Kip Ladage)

Kip’s Comments 9-9-21

Very Little To See, But So Much Data Recorded Since my last post I spent some time dabbling with night sky photography. From my elevated vantage point I was able to see for miles on earth, millions of miles into the sky, and a gazillion stars circling overhead. With a bit of experimentation I …
