Today was a very long day, but a day filled with good people and good people doing good things.
First we had RAGBRAI (Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa) that passed through Janesville. Team planning resulted in a smooth operation as 16,000-20,000 bicyclists passed through the community. From city officials to EMS and Fire to law enforcement – the process went well. I provided some medical care, but nothing that was emergent or extreme. Perhaps many kudos should go to the riders who were polite and cooperative. I met people from Ohio, Wisconsin, Washington DC (NPR Radio), and of course friendly Iowans. I am also thankful the weather remained cloudy as long as it did. At times I thought my boots were melting into the pavement, but that was only for a few hours versus the entire day.
Then tonight we had the combine demolition derby at the Bremer County Fair. The derby was entertaining as retired combines were rendered scrap pile candidates. Fair attendees enjoyed the show that went off without a hitch.
After doing virtually nothing last year due to COVID, it is nice to see activities resume without any issues. Good job to all!
