Thankful for Little Things
Just before noon on Monday I was notified by an ICU doctor at Methodist Hospital/Mayo that a family member was gravely ill. Two-hours or so later I arrived at the hospital where our healthcare roller coaster ride was beginning again. For several hours we prayed, waited, and wondered how the situation would evolve. As I paced the halls I noticed the festive decorations in the streets of Rochester. This year, I am not feeling too much in the holiday spirit.
Rochester, Minnesota at Night:
Today (Tuesday) was more challenging. At times we sensed a new phase of existence was near, then we were pleasantly pulled back to this life when the ill person stated (by squeezing my hand) that they wanted to continue to fight. Right or wrong, the challenge was accepted.
Much to our surprise, tonight the following message was written by a person on a ventilator who is receiving massive amounts of drugs, and kidney dialysis – two simple words “Feel Good”. Oh, what a powerful message in two little words.
