Flash Flooding and Its Affect on Wildlife
Following last night’s heavy rains it was easy to see wildlife that had been pushed out of thick cover by rapidly rising rivers. As the river bottoms fill with water, wildlife is forced to move to drier ground as the two wild turkeys I photographed had done this morning.
Apparently the birds were aware that being in the open made them vulnerable. Rising water or not, both birds headed for cover as I slowed my truck to shoot a few pictures. Since turkeys can easily fly, both birds should be just fine.
