Recapping a Couple of Busy Days

The past few days have been a whirlwind of activity for Kristy and me. We began with camping at Black Hawk Park in Cedar Falls. My photo energies were limited to a few wildflower pictures, with none capturing anything unusual.

Dandelion (photographed because there were so many!):

Later in the day I traveled to Lake Ahquabi in Warren County to scout for a wildflower walk I was guiding for “Wild Women of the Outdoors.” I found the following wildflowers:

When I returned to Northeast Iowa I photographed the uncommon showy orchis plant.

This morning, while still at our campsite, we enjoyed a Mother’s Day campfire breakfast.

As I was driving I noticed numerous white clumps of wildflowers along a section of road. When I looked closely at them I realized I was seeing more Pointed Blue-eyed Grass like I had found in Southern Iowa.

This afternoon and evening I assisted CrawDaddy Outdoors with their annual Mother’s Day Marsh Migration Paddling Adventure.  Following are some images from the kayaking.

Even though it is getting late in the season, we still were treated some interesting wildlife.

As we ended the paddling I had a couple of opportunities to photograph a paddler against a pretty setting sun scenic.
