Signs of the Times

Like it or not, autumn is here and winter is not too far around the corner. Everywhere I looked today I saw signs of the times… indications of changing seasons… clues of autumn. I recorded images of some of them and will share them in no particular order.

During a short-duration roaming of the Heffernan Wildlife Management Area I watched this black swallowtail butterfly on thistle:

One of the most exciting things I found today were several rattlesnake master plants. I’ve found a half-dozen or so wild rattlesnake master plants in the past couple of weeks!

Also observed at the Heffernan Wildlife Management Area was this great egret – another indication of autumn and the migration that is underway.
