A Reunion With Old Friends
The last couple of weeks I was busier than I’ve been in ages. First there was RAGBRAI, then a week of supporting the Bremer County Fair, with an all-night fire response thrown in the middle of week. Sometimes it seemed life would never be normal again. Then there was last night. We had the final event of the fair – the NTPA Truck and Tractor Pull. When I turned off my radio and drove home, life began the transition back to my normal routine. I slept a little later than I planned this morning, but still made it on the water before the sun was high in the sky. As if it was planned, I had a couple of great blue herons to photograph. One was skittish; one was not. Life was back to normal! The heron that sat still allowed me to shoot many photos with various poses. Following is a sampling of great blue heron images recorded this morning.

As I paddled back to my truck I noticed a buttonbush in its prime. This is one of its interesting flowers.
