Sensory Abundance

Today Kristy and I took a long-overdue day away to explore the backcountry along the Mississippi River. Yes, we stopped at one of the popular tourist spots – Effigy Mounds National Monument for a hike. But before our trek at the mounds, I introduced Kristy to one of my favorite “off the beaten path” single lane roads along the big river. We then explored away from the crowds at Yellow River State Forest.

We were expecting to see some color change in the leaves, and did, but not as much as we anticipated. Weather conditions-permitting, next week may be the peak of colors. Today’s colors were mostly greens, yellows, and shades of orange. Vibrant colors were few and far between. Even with subdued colors, we enjoyed the day and will return.

Following is a sampling of the many images recorded today.
