In Hiding, But Not Really
Maybe this young sandhill crane has not yet learned how to be elusive.
On my first pass near this grassland, I saw two adult cranes and a young bird. By the time I turned around for a better look, both parent birds were hidden, but the youngster only sat down while continuing to look around. Eventually both parents stood up and led the exposed bird some distance away. I can’t help but wonder if the adults are somehow educating the naive bird on safety and visibility.
