Roadside Treats Thanks to the Iowa Department of Transportation
Alert motorists traveling on Highway 63 in Bremer County are enjoying numerous visual treats now and for some time yet. Beautiful wildflowers are blooming along the sides of the road and in the median.
Of special interest to me are the compass plants in the area of Highway 63 and Highway 3. In fact, I had to stop today to enjoy them since they are so tall and noticeable. While studying the compass plants I saw other wild flora too. The Iowa Department of Transportation did a great job on the roadside vegetation part of this highway project. Thank you IDOT!

Now for something completely different….
Each year I purchase and feed out several hundred dollars worth of birdseed. Over the years I have been repaid with observations of many species of birds. Today I had a big bird surprise.
I was talking to a fellow along the road when he said “There is your turkey!” I wasn’t sure what he was talking about until I looked back and down and there was a young turkey near me.
We don’t know who owns the bird, but will help return it if possible.
