Thank You For Posing

As a family member and I were returning from yet another trip to the Mayo Clinics in Rochester, Minnesota, we were also doing what we almost always do – birding on the drive home. We were more than half of the drive south and had seen a red-tailed hawk briefly, a wild turkey a long distance away, some whitetail deer, but nothing close enough for an image to be recorded.

Not too far into Howard County I watched as this rough-legged hawk flew toward us from the east and perched on this sign with small solar panels. The hawk not only flew and perched near us, but remained alert and on perch as we parked along the road and I shot photos.

This does not happen often, so when it does I am easily excited. We have seen a variety of birds together on our road hunts and now we can add rough-legged hawk to our list!
