If You Cut It They Will Come
A few miles southwest of Tripoli (as the geese or cranes fly) is a field where the corn has been cut. With each day the number of avian visitors is increasing. I haven’t checked it every morning, but today when I looked it over I noticed two sandhill cranes were feeding with the many Canada geese. Even as I was there more geese were arriving, apparently oblivious to my presence.
Seeing so many birds congregating in this field makes me wonder how they communicate the availability of food to others of their species. And, did the cranes just find the grain or did they somehow learn of it from the geese? We may never know.
